Progressives stand with palestinians

Progressives are standing with palestinians, including being the only major statewide political party to call for a ceasefire, an end to the occupation, and an end to aid to Israel.

Resolution: the Vermont progressive party calls for a ceasefire in Gaza and a halt to the flow of U.S. Weapons to israel as proposed by senator sanders and welch (originally Passed Nov 2023)

WHEREAS, the Vermont Progressive Party is an anti-war, anti-racist, pro-justice movement;

WHEREAS, the driving mission of the Vermont Progressive Party is to create a world that is economically, socially, and environmentally just for all people, and where all people are free and can live with dignity;

WHEREAS, the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza is antithetical to what we stand for;

WHEREAS, the Vermont Progressive Party unequivocally opposes war crimes, including ethnic cleansing, starvation and collective punishment, and especially the use of U.S., and Vermont, taxpayer funds to support such crimes;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Vermont Progressive Party condemns: the genocide in Gaza being carried out by the Israeli State with full support of the U.S. Government; and the attacks on Palestinians being perpetrated by the Israeli military and illegal settlers in the West Bank.  To date 43,391 Palestinians, 331 this week alone, over ⅔ of them women and children, have been killed in Gaza since October 7th, 2023. 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Vermont Progressive Party calls on our Vermont Congressional delegation and the Vermont Legislature to demand: 

  1. An immediate halt to the flow of U.S. weapons to Israel in adherence to U.S. and international law, as proposed by Senators Sanders and Welch;

  2. An immediate restoration of humanitarian aid to all of Gaza, and of U.S. funding to UNRWA;

  3. An immediate, permanent ceasefire;

  4. An end to the Israeli occupation; full rights and equality for all Palestinians; and the inalienable right of return of refugees as stipulated in UN Resolution 194.
