Take Action to Save VT Public Schools!
Vermont needs a Secretary of Education with a track record of advocating for our public schools, not defunding and shutting them down.
That is why we need you to tell your VT State Senators to reject Governor Scott’s appointment of 'Defund and Shut Down' Zoie Saunders as secretary of the Agency of Education.
Governor Phil Scott nominated Zoie Saunders as Secretary of our Agency of Education. Saunders’s education experience amounts to 5 years as a charter school executive who drained public education dollars for private institutions, and 3 months as a “strategist” for a Florida school district tasked with shuttering public schools. Saunders’s nomination only serves Governor Scott’s agenda to further privatize our public school system.
The VT Senate can block Saunders’s nomination in the coming weeks. That is why we need you to ask them to please vote no on the nomination.
Progressive Sen. Tanya Vyhovsky is leading the flight in the VT Senate because she believes that:
“Investing in strong and well supported public schools is an investment in Vermont’s future. At this critical inflection point for Vermont’s public schools, it is critical that we appoint a secretary to the Agency of Education with a strong background in championing our pubic school system. Ms. Saunders does not fit this bill.”
Sen. Tanya Vyhovsky (P/D – Chittenden Central)
Vermont’s public schools are the heartbeat of our communities and critical to working families and their children’s futures. We deserve an Education Secretary with a track record of improving and investing in public schools, not defunding and closing them.
