The Progressive Nominees for 2023 TMD Elections

Neighbors –

Progressive voters have spoken, and we are proud to announce our slate of candidate for the 2023 Town Meeting Day Elections.

In the Central District we nominated Melo Grant.

Melo Grant (aka DJ Melo) is a longtime community member.  She raised her niece and nephew and has lived in the Old North End’s Central District for over 20 years. In her employment she works to help Vermonters and others maximize health care benefits. Melo is on the Burlington Police Commissioner, was a member of the Special Committee to Review Policing Policies and is a Media Factory (formerly VCAM & RETN) board member.

In Ward 8 we nominated Rhone Allison.

Rhone Allison is a third year UVM student from San Diego. They have canvassed all throughout the state for progressive candidates. Now, Rhone is running to push for affordable housing, worker power, and expanded climate friendly infrastructure.

In East District we nominated Jake Schumann

Jake Schumann has worked as a first responder, in social services, nonprofit management, and on public policy projects. Since moving to Burlington in 2009, Jake has worked hard to build relationships and learn from the wisdom of our community members. From the first days of the Pandemic, Jake volunteered to serve the most vulnerable members of the community. Since 2020, Jake has been most active as a member of The Peoples Kitchen, helping to organize logistics, and now working on acquiring a mobile kitchen (aka food truck).

In the South District we had a tie vote. Your Progressive Steering Committee is meeting on Sunday to determine next steps, and we will likely hold a new round of voting for the South District to determine a winner.

We also want to thank Romeo Von Hermann and Adam Franz for running strong campaigns. in the caucus. Our Party and movement is strengthened when members get to choose between multiple candidates running in the caucus.

Now that most of our candidates have been nominated, it is time to get to work. This election is an important one for our city, and we will need everyone who cares about the future of our community to get involved with these candidates if we are going to be successful. Please stay tuned on ways to get involved in the coming days.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the caucus. You are the reason our party remains a vibrant and active force in Burlington.

In solidarity,

Josh Wronski
Director, Vermont Progressive Party
