Ward 2 Councilor Gene Bergman was unanimously elected chair of the btv city council progressive caucus!

The Burlington Progressives are proud to announce that Ward 2 City Councilor Gene Bergman has been elected as the Chairperson of our caucus. This appointment affirms our commitment to effective leadership and progressive growth in our city. As Caucus Chairperson, Councilor Bergman will oversee the coordination of our policy priorities, work to strengthen our coalition, and ensure that our values of participatory democracy, sustainability, and social justice are at the forefront of our city’s polices.

I’m serving with councilors who care deeply about their residents, their electoral districts, and the entire city. We all come from backgrounds of organzing and community action. We are all committed to making our city safe for all, affordable, and a leader for climate sanity. Together with the Mayor and an organized community, we can do it.” - Councilor Bergman

Ward 1 Councilor Carter Neubieser highlighted Bergman’s long-standing commitment to Progressive core values: “Gene has been a champion for working people and our planet for decades. The institutional knowledge he brings to the role of Caucus Chair will be critical to passing a strong Progressive agenda in the months and years ahead.”

Ward 3 Councilor Joe Kane praised Bergman’s leadership skills: “Gene is a tremendous communicator and consistently leads by example. His ability to articulate our vision and mobilize support will be instrumental in our ongoing efforts for progressive reform.”

Ward 8 Councilor Marek Broderick commented on Bergman’s new role: “Gene has been a mentor for me both during my election and since becoming a city councilor. His institutional knowledge makes him wholly deserving of being our caucus chair.”

Central District Councilor Melo Grant said of Bergman: “I have immense respect for Councilor Bergman. His years of experience working for the city of Bergman, being an active community member along with his experience on the council give him the expertise we need to help us do the necessary work for the people of Burlington.”
