BURLINGTON, VT - The Burlington Steering Committee of the Vermont Progressive Party issued the following statement following the announcement that Mayor Miro Weinberger will not run for reelection in 2024.

“Burlington Progressives congratulate Mayor Weinberger on his upcoming retirement from the mayor's office and thank him for 12 years of public service.

We look forward to running a robust mayoral campaign and electing a mayor who will support working families and embrace the growing diversity in our city.

Over the past 10 years we have seen the cost of homeownership and rent skyrocket with an associated increase in homelessness and working families priced out of our city. We have seen property taxes and utility costs increase. We have seen our school system diversify with too few supports for parents, families, and school employees. We have seen scandals in our city departments and a growing division in our city on what public safety means.

We are excited at the opportunity to support a Mayor who can build bridges and bring our diverse community together, restore trust, maintain affordability, and move our City forward with the support of our community.”
