Executive Director, Vermont Progressive Party
Burlington, VT – Ali Dieng won the special election for Burlington's Ward 7 City Council seat, on Tuesday with over sixty percent of the vote. Dieng was endorsed by the Burlington Progressive Party in May and had the support of current and former Progressive elected officials.
“We are excited that Ali won his election and will be joining us on City Council,” Said Max Tracy, Ward 2 Progressive City Councilor. Tracy went on to say that “we are confident that Ali will be a strong champion for working families in Ward 7. As the second New American ever elected to City Council, he will be a much needed and underrepresented voice.”
Dieng ran as a Democrat/Progressive. His platform included increasing access to affordable housing, fighting the opioid epidemic, and strengthening public transportation to and from the New North End.
