Selene Colburn, Burlington, Chittenden County
I am a library professor at the University of Vermont, where much of my work focuses on fundraising, marketing, and strategic planning – important skills to bring to the Coordinating Committee. I’ve worked on multiple campaigns to elect Progressives, most notably serving as campaign manager for Rachel Siegel’s successful Burlington City Council run and social media coordinator for Doug Hoffer’s 2012 campaign for Auditor.
In 2002, I co-founded Vermont Access to Reproductive Freedom, an organization that provides financial assistance for women who would not otherwise be able to afford abortion services and related expenses. I have helped to fund and run the organization in various capacities over the last decade. I’ve also served on the boards of Vermont Community Access Media, Grass Roots Art and Community Effort, the Vermont Library Association, and Cradle to Grave Arts. I am a trustee of the Burlington Library Commission and an active member of United Academics.
I’m eager to continue the work I’ve been doing on the CoCo to help the Progressive Party gain visibility with renewed branding, active messaging, coalition building, and continued grassroots organizing. I’m especially excited about promoting our newly-launched online petition to keep corporate money out of Vermont politics and working with the incredible student activists we’ll hear from at the convention.
