Statement from Emma and your Progressive City Council Caucus

Tonight was historic. Emma Mulvaney-Stanak was sworn in as Burlington’s first woman and first openly LGBTQ+ mayor. We gained a seat on the City Council and are better-positioned to work on the issues that voters gave us a mandate to pursue.

As your Burlington Progressive Mayor and City Council Caucus, we want to thank you for trusting us to serve our community here in Burlington. We are committed to responsive, responsible, transparent, and collaborative leadership. Together we will bring neighbors together around an agenda that strives to meet the needs of all Burlington residents, including communities too often marginalized by our political process.

The purpose of our government is to provide for the common good of all residents — regardless of their income, housing status, sexual orientation, gender identity, race or ethnicity, immigration status, or political alignment. We are ready to move forward together and put people before politics.

With Appreciation & Hope,

Emma Mulvaney-Stanak, Mayor
Gene Bergman, Ward 2 City Councilor
Melo Grant, Central District City Councilor
Carter Neubieser, Ward 1 City Councilor
Joe Kane, Ward 3 City Councilor
Marek Broderick, Ward 8 City Councilor

As we celebrate this new time in Burlington, state leadership is considering whether to pass the Just Cause Eviction Charter Changes that were approved in Burlington and Winooski. Take 30 seconds to email the VT Speaker of the House, asking that they proceed with the clearly articulated will of the residents of Burlington and Winooski who overwhelmingly passed their Just Cause Eviction Charter Changes.
